There are neutron moderator and reflector used in atomic reactors, hot column graphite used for isotope production, spherical graphite and block graphite used in high-temperature gas cooled reactors, and so on. In a thermal neutron reactor, it can serve as a neutron moderator in the fuel zone, a reflector material around the fuel zone, and a structural material inside the core.
